NEW HAVEN HEALTH LEADERSHIP PROGRAM

The New Haven Health Leaders put their training into practice by focusing on neighborhood-level health issues, while engaging other residents and stakeholders towards the mission of improving health for their communities. Over its 10-year history, CARE has identified solutions to health challenges through community action in collaboration with residents from low-income neighborhoods and with numerous community partners. Together, we have implemented community gardens, mobile farmers’ markets, urban walking trails, and advocated for safer streets for biking and walking.  CARE formalized this work into New Haven Health Leaders, a leadership program that guides New Haven residents on the principles of community organizing and public health.

COMMUNITY RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP

Through the Community Research Fellows (CRF) program, we aim to break barriers to patient engagement in Patient Centered Outcome Research at Yale, by developing a network of community stakeholders in New Haven & Bridgeport equipped to partner with Yale investigators. Despite the resources invested in research and patient care, these medical breakthroughs have had little impact on the complex health outcomes that continue to disproportionately affect low-income communities of color. The CRF program is designed to create a network of residents with knowledge, skills, and confidence for a successful partnership with researchers.

VACCINE EQUITY FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

In this 6-month training program, Vaccine Equity Fellows will learn about COVID-19 and flu prevention and vaccination efforts in New Haven, and will receive training on how to have effective conversations about vaccines to increase vaccine confidence and reduce vaccine hesitancy. Fellows will activate their own neighborhood or community-based networks to conduct vaccine outreach as trusted messengers.

Applications for the 2023 Summer cohort closed June 1, 2023. For questions about the program, please contact info@carenhv.org.
